Chemical equipment comes in a wide variety of types, and there are multiple ways to classify it. For example, based on material and construction, it can be divided into carbon steel equipment, stainless steel equipment, and non-metallic equipment. Based on pressure rating, it can be categorized as high-pressure equipment, medium-pressure equipment, vacuum equipment, and atmospheric-pressure equipment, among others.

Currently, a rough classification according to function is as follows:

(2) Separation tower equipment: including packed towers, floating-valve towers, bubble-cap towers, and tray towers, among others.
(3) Reactors: including tubular reactors, fluidized-bed reactors, and stirred-tank reactors, among others.
(4) Heat exchangers: including shell-and-tube heat exchangers, plate heat exchangers, and coil heat exchangers, among others.
(5) Heating furnaces: including electric heating furnaces, tubular cracking furnaces, and waste-heat boilers, among others;
(6) Crystallization equipment: solution crystallizers, melt crystallizers, etc.
(7) Other various specialized chemical equipment, etc.
